American Legion Ladies Auxiliary Keeping Busy with Activities

by Sherry Simmons on May 13, 2015

The American Legion Post 191 Ladies Auxiliary held an Americanism essay contest “What Does Freedom Mean to My Family”?  Americanism Essay winners were Kiara Good 5th Grade; Luke Snyder High School; Eric Ringer High School.  Each received a $50 check from our unit with a chance at another $50 at the National Level.

The American Legion Post 191 Ladies Auxiliary will be sending one representative from Bremen High School to the  Hoosier Girls State 2015.  Hoosier Girls State is a very prestigious  event.  The first Girl’s State took place in 1938; first Hoosier Girl’s State (HGS) was held in 1941.  Over 44,000 young women from Indiana have participated – some famous Hoosier’s are Jane Pauley, Mrs. Jan Reed, and may other fantastic BHS seniors.  Who qualifies for HGS?  Current juniors who: are interested in government; possess leadership qualities, integrity, and good character; show proper respect for the US flag; have a love for God and country.  HGS is a hands-on, participation-based program; delegates run a mock state government for several days. Our 2015 representative is Tori Homan.

The American Legion Ladies Auxiliary will be holding a Swiss Steak Fund Raiser Dinner at the VFW/American Legion on Thursday, June 11th beginning at 5:00PM until they are sold out. There will be pre-sale tickets at the club for sale.  Meal comes with mashed potatoes, green beans, lettuce salad, tea or coffee and dessert all for $8.00.
