BCC Sponsors 3rd Annual Bowen Days in Bremenby Jessica Flores on February 19, 2016
Bremen Community Cares is proud to announce another celebration of “Bowen Days” this month in Bremen. February 26 was declared “Doc Bowen Day” in 2014 by the Town of Bremen to honor the memory of the late Dr. Otis R. Bowen, Indiana Governor from 1973 - 1981 and Secretary of Health and Human Services under President Ronald Reagan from 1985 - 1989.
Volunteers from BCC are coordinating a coloring “showcase” for elementary students at BPS and St. Paul's Lutheran School. The colored portraits of Doc will be on display downtown at the Senior Center on West Plymouth St., starting Friday, February 19th. Also watch for special Bowen displays in the office windows of Dave Holmes, attny. and inside Community Hospital of Bremen.
Bremen residents are encouraged to show their love and respect for “Doc’s” legacy by purchasing a pair of signature dark-rimmed glasses like the ones he used to wear on the week of February 22nd. Glasses will be for sale for $2.00 per pair at the Bremen Elementary/Middle School book store and Mean Bean Coffee House February 22 - 26. Volunteers will also be on hand to sell specs during the boys high school JV and varsity home basketball games on Friday, February 23rd.
