BCC & VFW Coordinate Memorial Day Parade & Picnicby Jessica Flores on April 14, 2015 |
Bremen, IN-- For the second year, a group of local volunteers known as Bremen Community Cares, is partnering with the Bremen VFW Ladies' Auxiliary Post 8972 to coordinate a Memorial Day Parade on May 25th. Hundreds of spectators turned out to the first event last year to watch a number of honored vets, civic groups, emergency responders, churches and others march and ride in the parade, led by Veteran and Grand Marshall, Esther Hill. Uncle Sam and Betsy Ross also made appearances, handing out balloons and flags to those along the route from the post office to the Bremen Cemetery.
This year's parade will begin at approximately 10:15 at the post office on north Center Street, stop at the yellow river bridge for a wreath ceremony, and commence at the cemetery for a special service conducted by the VFW Honor Guard. Following the service, Bremen Community Cares will sponsor a picnic and tailgate at Shadyside Park. Live music and food will be available as well as a prize for the best-decorated tailgate party. Everyone is invited to join in this special community event with family, friends and neighbors.
Visit the Bremen Community Cares Facebook page for an online form for parade entries, or pick up a paper form at the Town Hall. Residents who wish to walk in a "marching" unit may bring a framed photo of a beloved service member to the lineup at 9:00 a.m., on May 25th, and veterans who wish to ride in a designated vehicle, may call the VFW at 574-546-4972, by May 18th, for special arrangements.
A marching band, corporate sponsors and volunteers are also being sought for the event. To contribute, or for more information, call Gayle at 574-546-2774, or email bremencommunitycares@gmail.com.
