BHS landscaping class teams up with The Whitlockby Holly Heller on May 30, 2015
BREMEN -- The front walk at The Whitlock, an independent senior living community in Bremen, has gotten a cheerful facelift, thanks to the Bremen High School landscaping class. "They did a super nice job with it," said teacher Chad Berger. "It brightened it up a little bit."
The walk path is now lined with 30 plants including hydrangeas, roses and hostas, all surrounded by decorative river rock. Designed by student Marisa Browning, the plans included installation of drainage to correct a water issue on the site. The Whitlock funded the materials and the 30 students in the landscaping class provided the labor. The front walk marks the second project completed by the BHS class at The Whitlock. Last year, the students landscaped around a gazebo.
"This is a great partnership," Berger said. "The kids really enjoy it." The Whitlock Administrator Steve Wirgau agreed. "This is a great thing that this class is doing for The Whitlock," he said. Wirgau and Berger are already thinking of projects for the coming years. "We've got years ahead of us!" Berger said.
