On Wednesday, May 14, 2014 at about 4:45 a.m., Officer Nick Young, of the Bremen Police Department, was on regular patrol when he observed a vehicle traveling Southbound on SR 331. Officer Young also observed that there was a female passenger hanging out the driver's side rear window of the vehicle screaming for someone to please help her. Officer Young stopped the vehicle in the 900 block of West Plymouth Street. An investigation was conducted and it was determined that the female passenger and her 2 year old child were abducted from Benham Avenue in Elkhart this morning by the suspect who is an acquaintance of the victim. The suspect was transporting the victim and child to an unknown destination.
The suspect, 21 year old Jesus Hernandez of 1916 Morton Avenue, Elkhart, was arrested on a complaint of kidnapping, domestic battery, carjacking, operator never licensed and child endangerment. He was incarcerated at the Marshall County Jail. The formal charges are pending a review by the Marshall County Prosecutors Office.
