Bremen Celebrating "Doc Bowen Day" on February 26by Jessica Flores on February 11, 2015
Bremen Community Cares is proud to announce another celebration of “Bowen Days” this month in Bremen. February 26 was declared “Doc Bowen Day” in 2014 by the Town of Bremen to honor the memory of the late Dr. Otis R. Bowen, Indiana Governor from 1973 - 1981 and Secretary of Health and Human Services under President Ronald Reagan from 1985 - 1989.
Volunteers from BCC have arranged for flags to be flown in downtown Bremen the week of Feb. 23rd and are coordinating a coloring “showcase” for students in K - 2nd grade. They will also be helping to sponsor the long-time Bowen Free Throw award for the 2015 boys & girls Bremen Lions basketball season.
Bremen residents are encouraged to show their love and respect for “Doc’s” legacy by purchasing a pair of signature dark-rimmed glasses like the ones he used to wear on the week of February 23rd. Glasses will be for sale for $2.00 per pair from the BHS DECA club, at the Bremen town hall and at Koontz’s Hardware. Volunteers will also be on hand to sell specs during the boys high school varsity home basketball game on Friday, February 27th. Bremen Kiwanis has co-sponsored the sales, which will provide trophies for the Free Throw Award and help fund future projects to beautify the community and bring residents together for events that celebrate our good town.
For more information, or to share pictures of your friends and family wearing Bowen glasses, visit Bremen Community Cares on Facebook, or call (574) 248-0453.
If you would like to share your pictures of Doc Bowen with The People's Paper, please email them in .jpg form to email@example.com by February 25th. The People's Paper will make a photo gallery that will be displayed on Doc's Birthday (February 26) to celebrate his life and times in Bremen.
