Bremen man pleads guilty in 15-year-old girl's murderby Rachel Langdon on June 15, 2016
Fabian Rubio, 20, of Bremen has pleaded guilty to the murder of a 15-year-old girl.
Marshall County Police discovered Desi Jones's body near a wooded area in December of 2015, after a man walking his dog saw the corpse and called them.
Rubio was charged with murder, sexual misconduct with a minor and abuse of a corpse in relation to Jones' death. The state dismissed all but the murder count.
Rubio lived on East Shore Drive in Bremen, four houses down from the Jones family.
Investigators say Jones' body was doused with gasoline and set on fire. Much of the upper half of her body was badly burned, according to the coroner's assessment detailed in court documents.
Police say interviews led officers to Rubio, who had left town the weekend after Jones' body was discovered. When he returned to Bremen, police brought him in for questioning. Rubio parked his truck in the public parking lot at the Bremen police post.
That's when officers found a blood stain on the rear license plate of Rubio's truck. They say Rubio himself told officers he had washed his truck before leaving town that weekend. That blood stain matched Jones' DNA.
After obtaining a search warrant, officers searched his car and home, and found a black sweatshirt, black T-shirt, glove and hammer, all stained with blood. The blood on all items matched Jones' DNA.
Rubio's sentencing is set for July 14 at 9:30 a.m.
