Meals on Wheels of Bremen Offers Community Supportby Tammy Venable on September 8, 2014 |
If you have never heard of “Meals on Wheels of Bremen” before, you’re missing out on a great service that is done by volunteers of the Bremen Community. Joanna Fox, program coordinator, organizes volunteers to pick up meals from the Community Hospital of Bremen and deliver them to homebound senior citizens within the town limits of Bremen. For a cost of just $15.00 per week, senior citizens get a hot meal, Monday through Friday between 11:00 a.m. to 12:00 noon each day.
Fox stated, “Friendly volunteers deliver hot and healthy meals to your door.” Although patrons of the service do not get a choice of menu, they do have a choice between juice or milk and also a diabetic option.
The program, which has been around since the 1970's, is a ministry of St. Paul’s Lutheran Church in Bremen. Volunteers and recipients of the program are from all over the community. If you are interested in volunteering or know of someone that needs the service, feel free to contact Joanna Fox at 574-248-0549.
Meals on Wheels of Bremen is not the same service as Meals on Wheels through Real Services of Marshall County, which is a United-Way funded program.
