Tri Kappa Offers Scholarships for Students Currently in College

by Sharon Bohannon on November 28, 2014

Bremen men and women already enrolled in college as sophomores or higher have opportunities for scholarships available from Kappa Kappa Kappa, Inc. (Tri Kappa). A variety of scholarships are available, depending on eligibility, to college students throughout the state. Each scholarship is up to $1,000, renewable each year.  Deadlines to apply are in January 2015. A head start to gather the required documents is helpful and advisable.

There are four types of scholarships available from State Tri Kappa:  Academic, State Key, Fine Arts, and Twanette Nutter Fleming Award. Following are the eligibility requirements of each.

1) State Academic Scholarship: Any full-time student currently enrolled in a baccalaureate or graduate program, who has completed at least one academic year, may apply. Criteria used by the Tri Kappa selection committee include: academic achievement, strong goals, extracurricular activities, work experience and volunteer service.

2) State Key Scholarship: For those students who have no previous degree and have not been in school for a minimum of five years. Any student may apply who is enrolled in an accredited school offering an associate or baccalaureate degree, enrolled for a minimum of six hours for next semester, may apply.

3) Fine Arts Scholarship: Students majoring in art, dance, drama, or music (performance, visual-graphic or computer-generated art, or educator). Students must be enrolled in an accredited degree program.

4) Twanette Nutter Fleming Music Award is a scholarship which stipulates that the applicant must be enrolled in a fully accredited course of study leading to a degree to teach music in the public schools.

Applications from Bremen students are collected and selected locally by the Bremen Epsilon Pi Scholarship Committee. Deadline to submit is:  January 14, 2015.   The Tri Kappa State Scholarship Committee will meet in early Spring to select the final recipients.  In addition, the person selected will also receive $500 from Bremen Chapter, Epsilon Pi.

Interested students may contact Sharon Bohannon at: sharbohan@outlook.com or phone 574-298-0446 to learn more.

In addition to the State scholarships for college students, the Bremen Chapter of Tri Kappa also provides local scholarship funds for Bremen High School students through Dollars for Scholars.
