Locomotive Day at the Wakarusa Public Libraryby Shondra Brown on January 23, 2015
Join the Wakarusa Public Library on February 16, for Locomotive Day! This event is for all ages, and programming will run from 9:00 am – 7:00 p.m. Locomotive, by Brian Floca, is a 2014 Caldecott Award book and deserves to be celebrated! The movie of this title will be shown at different times throughout the day, along with “Make-It/Take-It” craft times and special story time readings. Call the library (574-862-2465) for exact times. No registration is required.
Story Hour children will hear “Silver Stories” from Caldecott Honor books, including Ella Sarah Gets Dressed by Margaret Chodos-Irvine, on February 9 and February 10 at 10:15 a.m. The sessions are for children ages 3 – 5 years old who are registered for the program.
Beginning Story Hour, ages 18 – 36 months, will shake their sillies out and sing to a story on February 11, at 10:00 a.m. Registered children will enjoy a craft or an activity, and will hear About a Bear by Holly Surplice.
Book Bites will take place on February 6, at 10:15 a.m. Children will hear a story or two, including Go Shapes Go by Denise Fleming, and participate in either a craft or an activity related to the story. No registration is required.
Friday, February 6, 3:15 – 5:20 p.m. is the next meeting for the Young Adult book club. Young adults (grades 6-8) will watch the film Hugo based on the novel, The Invention of Hugo Cabret by Brian Selznick. February 13, 3:15 – 4:15 p.m., registered participants are invited back to discuss the book and movie. Refreshments will be served at both meetings.
