Summer Programs at the Wakarusa Public Library

by Shondra Brown on June 19, 2015

Young Adults (grades 6-8) that have leftover auction bucks from a previous Summer Reading Club will want to shop our YA Store on Thursday, June 25 from 1:00 – 3:00 p.m., and on Monday,June 29 from 10:30 a.m. – 12 p.m.  Previously earned auction bucks may be redeemed at this time for prizes; after these dates, auction bucks will become obsolete.

Book Bites will take place on Friday, June 26 (“Princess Super Kitty” by Antoinette Portis) and Thursday, July 2 (“The Bear Ate Your Sandwich” by Julia Sarcone-Roach) at 10:15 a.m.  Children will hear a story or two and participate in either a craft or activity related to the stories.  No registration is required.

Are you tired of cooking the same meals over and over again?  Are you looking for some new ideas and time saving tips?  Join us as we explore ways to “Escape Your Dinner” and share new meal ideas with each other on Monday, June 29 at 6:30 p.m.  Adults (grade 9 and older) are invited to attend, and registration is required for this event.

Preschool Story Hour is a program for registered children ages 3 – 5 years old.  Tuesday, June 30, at 10:15 a.m., children will hear “Hero Dad” by Melinda Hardin, a story about a real life military hero.  Registered children will also participate in an activity or a craft related to the story.

Wednesday, July 1 at 2:00 pm will be our next School Age Special (Be a Hero, Thank a Hero) for children in grades K – 5.  Participants will have the chance to create thank you drawings and cards that will be sent to those serving our country.  A patriotic craft will also be created, and “Tuesday Tucks Me In” by Luis Carlos Montalvan will be shared with the registered children.

“The Legend of the Dipper” is currently running on our Dial A Story Line at 862-4441.  Callers will hear how a kind little girl brings water to her dry country and the big dipper to the sky.
